What are the admission requirements?
The application requirements are as follows:
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in the undergraduate degree.
- Completion of a statistics course with a minimum grade of B.
- Submission of two recommendation letters.
Currently, GRE and GMAT scores are not required.
What is the duration of the program? Can the program be completed part-time?
The program can be completed within one year. The 8 required courses and 2 electives can be taken during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters of an academic year.
Yes, the program can be completed on a part-time basis. Most of our current students are working professionals.
What are the technical and software skills students learn?
The courses cover a number of data analytical methods used in descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics. These methods can be applied in various industries and professional environments that require data analysis and managerial decision making. The software taught includes programming in SQL, R, Python, and AMPL. Additionally, applications like Power BI, Tableau, JMP, and Excel are used in a number of courses.
Is the program AACSB accredited, and is it a STEM-designated program?
Yes, Cameron School of Business, which houses the MS Business Analytics Program, is AACSB accredited. The MS Business Analytics is a STEM-designated program thereby making our students attractive for employers.
Do you provide any career support services?
The UNCW career center provides career support services, including help with resume and interview preparation. The Cameron School of Business also organizes networking opportunities which includes Business Week. The career day and WITX (Wilmington Information Technology Exchange) organized by the department are other opportunities for students to meet and network with employers. Students who utilize these services often secure internships and job opportunities.
Can I get internship credits?
Yes, you can substitute an elective course with an internship credit.
How flexible is the course schedule? Are there any synchronous components?
The program is primarily asynchronous, meaning that students can complete the coursework at their convenience before the deadlines for course activities. The faculty offers virtual office hours, during which the students can discuss course topics during these synchronous meetings. Certain courses have group projects, and the students within a group meet virtually to complete the project.
How do I register for courses?
Student success advisors assist students with creating their course schedules and enrolling in courses. Normally, the full course schedule is established at the time of admission, but advisors can help make changes to the schedule if needed.
How do you help students manage the accelerated pace? Especially if they are working?
Time management is essential for accelerated courses. Course instructors communicate the expectations and the time involvement at the onset. We try to provide a balanced schedule of courses in each semester such that the students do not feel overwhelmed. We also have excellent advisors who help the students throughout their journey with us.
